HaveTex

havetexcomHaveTex is a computer support firm in Northern Virginia. They supply managed services, network and firewall consulting, hardware repair, malware removal and a host of other services. As part of their growth and rebranding, they wanted a new web-site with a professional look that they could maintain themselves.

After meeting to discuss their needs, we determined that the site needed three components:

  1. The main web-site, which would list services, provide contact information and provide testimonials from clients.
  2. A blog for one the owners to talk about technical topics.
  3. A wiki for internal documentation of both the site's administrative needs and the business's processes.

Main Site

We created the main web-site with a professional appearance that meshes with HaveTex's branding. The home page lists the services provided and links to pages with more details. Contact information is prominent and there is a "book now" button that allows visitors to set appointments on-line.

The site has drop-down menus, an internal search feature, and context-sensitive, random testimonials from satisfied clients.

ConNextLA

ConNextLAConNextLA is a group of business professionals in Los Angeles. They wanted to update the design of their site and add some functionality as well. Celtic Wolf made the following changes:

  • Customized the open source template "JA Purity" to use ConNextLA's colors and images, resulting in a new, clean, professional appearance
  • Modified the format of the event listings to match ConNextLA's requirements
  • Added a "member spotlight" box on the left side to randomly show a shot description of a member
  • Changed the member listing page to show only the first few sentences of each member's description, followed by a "read more" link
  • Provided a way to have the image on the member's page appear on the left or the right. Text is wrapped around it smoothly, allowing for a more varied and professional layout.

Care for Seniors

Care for SeniorsCare for Seniors, Inc. had a web-site at one time, but had been off the web for a few years. As their business was expanding, they decided to resurect their prior site and once more have a web presence. However, they did not have any of the original files and had a very small budget.

Celtic Wolf worked with them to recreate the site and update the information. We found the text of the old site via the Wayback Machine, but not the original images, which are not archived. From this, we were able to recreate the site, applying modern standards such as XHTML and CSS.

After updating the content based on CFS's marketing collateral, we added new images to the site to give it a little visual pop. We were prevented from doing a real site design by their limited budget, but the clean layout and selected use of images provide a professional, if simple, look. To aid in navigation, we created a simple multilevel menu that works across browsers.

We completely rewrote their contact form to make it easier to navigate and better visually organized. Also, we created a custom form handler to e-mail the results of the form to CFS.

Technical Details: The site was created with XHTML 1.0 strict and CSS 2.0. It works in IE6+, Firefox 2+, Safari 3+ and Google Chrome 2+. The contact form's handler was written in PHP 5.

Workmen's Compensation Claim Application

pplication screen shot

Business Problem: Our client is a large regional construction company, specializing in large commercial and government projects. In the construction industry, workers' compensation claims are a significant cost and can make or break the profitability of a job. Because the claims were not being effectively tracked, the client could not produce useful metrics to measure the performance of individual jobs or entire divisions, nor could they properly account for costs, charging them back to the job on which the claim occurred.
